What would be the difference in putting ads on .gov websites versus public transportation? For example, in Atlanta, our MARTA buses are completely covered with ads making it somewhat distracting when you drive by one. Great topic though.

You echo a lot of the points I have raised when this topic comes up (and it does come up, again and again).
I feel it cheapens government overall to do so. I think there is something to be said for maintaining the professionalism, integrity and a sense of authority of our government on every face and this does not accomplish that goal.
I also feel that it gives the appearance that we cannot properly manage our budget - that we have to sell ourselves out to provide a standard service, such as a website.
Would we suggest such things about taxi tents on cop cars? "This arrest brought to you by Kleenex"
I agree with your post completely and hope that government administrators will not continue to cop out by cheapinging the online brand of government.
Keep up the good work!

Although our template is in need of replacement, we managed to use a WP front-end as a platform to communicate news and information about Cook County Government. The front-end also makes it much easier to access department and bureau information.
